An average ripe coconut weighs around 2kg. That means that when it falls from the tree, it can reach speeds in excess of 80 km/h and will hit the ground with a force in excess of 167kg. That’s quite an impact!

Indeed, around 150 people every year die from being hit by coconuts. So your chances of falling victim to one are roughly 1 in 125,000,000. Compare those odds to the positively likely chance of being struck by lightning (1 in 576,000) and you start to get the picture.
